Sel By Alexina Anatole
For this special supper club series at Setlist, within the iconic Somerset House, I’m bringing it back to where it all began: my first ever Sel supper club menu, but updated! Fusing Japanese flavours with European techniques, this menu will delivery all the flavours: umami, sour, bitter, salty and sweet.
Alexina is a writer, chef and presenter based in London. After reaching the final of MasterChef in 2021 she made a brave career change from the trading floor to food. Her cookbooks on flavour, Bitter and Sweet, are published by Penguin and have received critical acclaim from the likes of Nigella Lawson, Jay Raner and Rukmini Iyer. Her Substack newsletter, Small Wins, is all about thoughtful ways to improve your cooking, and counts Ben Lippett as a fan. She is also a regular on Saturday Kitchen, and has written for numerous outlets including Waitrose Magazine, Ocado and Guardian Feast.
Alexina runs sell-out events including Sel, London’s most intimate supper club, and Cocoa POP, a chocolate-themed pop-up with chocolatier Octavia Lamb, as well as private events for corporates, celebrities and HNWIs. She works with brands across her platforms, most recently Levi’s, AEG and IKEA.
Alexina is of mixed heritage: the granddaughter of chicken farmers from Cambridgeshire and Saint Lucian grandparents who arrived in London during the Windrush movement. She grew up in Paris and has travelled extensively, all of which results in an eclectic, colourful and thoughtful cooking style that, like her, reflects a mix of cultures and inspirations.
